Leeds United failed in £16m Premier League man on loan this summer

This summer Leeds United signed six players on loan, following a flash sale where the club raised funds of around £30m, but today we learned that they wanted a seventh, with a Southampton man in their sights.

Leeds brought in Goalkeeper Illan Meslier from Lorient, Defender Ben White from Brighton, Winger Jack Clarke from Spurs, Winger Helder Costa from Wolves, Winger Jack Harrison from Man City and Striker Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal during the summer transfer window, all high quality additions, but they wanted more.

A report from a Norwegian source, TV2, claims that Leeds wanted to also bring in forward Mohamed Elyounoussi from Southampton to further reinforce their squad for the new season.

The Norwegian international hit-man was a £16m signing for Southampton last summer from FC Basel, but has struggled for form for the St Mary’s club, making sixteen appearances but not finding the net on a single occasion.

These stats would not have filled the Leeds United faithful with much hope, but the players form for his previous two clubs (Basel and Molde) would have, with the front-man bagging fifty two goals in a combined one hundred and thirty six appearances.

Marcelo Bielsa is said to be happy with his options this season, only losing out on Ryan Kent from Liverpool from his wish list with Victor Orta working his magic for the likes of Nketiah and Costa.

No great loss would be my opinion.
